Ferrosilicon alloy is a deoxidizer used in steelmaking production. It improves the shape of inclusions and reduces the content of gas elements in molten steel. It is an effective new technology to improve steel quality, reduce costs, and save aluminum. It is especially suitable for the deoxidation requirements of continuous casting molten steel. The production of silicon-aluminum ferroalloy can be divided into the following three stages
1. Generation of silicon carbide
At lower temperatures, SiO2 reacts with carbon to produce silicon carbide,
2. Generation of aluminum oxide carbides and carbides
In the temperature range of 1600~2000ºC, carbon reacts with aluminum oxide to form aluminum oxide and silicon carbide;
3. Intermediate compounds such as carbides decompose silicon-aluminum-iron to form. At a higher temperature, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, aluminum carbide and silicon dioxide react to obtain silicon-aluminum; only high-quality silicon-aluminum ferroalloy can produce high-quality silicon-aluminum iron blocks. The deoxidation effect is good. It is generally believed that complex deoxidation products are generated and the oxidation activity is reduced, which is conducive to the deoxidation reaction. In addition, it is easy to generate a low melting point phase, making inclusions easy to polymerize and float away. When aluminum and ferrosilicon (FeAl30Si20) are used for deoxidation respectively, the total aluminum content in the steel is higher than that of the latter, while the acid-soluble aluminum of the latter is higher than that of the former. This shows that when ferrosilicon is used, the aluminum oxide inclusions are greatly reduce.
