Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel scraps and quartz (or silica) and is smelted in an electric arc furnace. Ferrosilicon is widely used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking process. At the same time, because the heat released when SiO2 is formed is relatively large, it is also beneficial to increase the temperature of the molten steel during deoxidation. Ferrosilicon is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, bond steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, electrical silicon steel, etc. It is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.
